Developer Comment: As part of our ongoing quest to increase counter-play and curb frustration when playing against certain Heroes, we’re changing Sylvanas’ Black Arrows trait so that her Abilities no longer disable Structures. This effect is incredibly powerful and, in the past, has limited how Battlegrounds can be designed and played. We realize that turning off enemy Structures is an important part of Sylvanas’ identity, so rather than removing this functionality completely, we’re addressing it in such a way that she now has to put herself in danger to get maximum value. This should allow more counter-play for opponents when Sylvanas is pushing, and enable us to improve her teamfight capabilities, which we’re doing initially via a small Basic Attack damage buff. We’ll be keeping an eye on her performance, and are ready to make further tuning changes as needed.

Developer Comment: While we love Bolt of the Storm and the playmaking potential that it provides, we believe that the talent is too often used as an extra escape. We have also received feedback that Bolt of the Storm could have more awesome moments if its playmaking potential were more tied to offensive use cases. Our goals with these changes are twofold: to consolidate Bolt of the Storm to heroes where we think it makes for awesome gameplay moments, and second to create use cases where it is more optimal to use Bolt of the Storm to make offensive plays. We hope that these changes create more interesting moments in the late-game where heroes can shine by making risky plays to ensure victory for their team.

Developer Comments: We started these changes off by looking for a more exciting Heroic ability for Sylvanas. After many iterations, we think we finally found something that can compete with Wailing Arrow. We’re excited to bring Mind Control to the Nexus, which will allow Sylvanas to ruin an enemy’s positioning while possibly sacrificing her own to do so.
Given its gravity, this change quickly led us down the rabbit hole of trying to fix her Talent pick-rates, so we took the opportunity to look into those while applying some of our newer Talent tree design philosophies. After the dust had settled, we realized our changes were going to remove a bit of the damage offered by her popular build paths, so we decided to increase her Basic Attack and Withering Fire damage to help even things out.

Design & Gameplay
General
- Damage dealt by splash and cleave attacks will no longer trigger effects that would otherwise require a direct attack to trigger (ex: Block, Spell Shield, Imposing Presence, etc.)

- Fixed an issue that could cause Sylvanas’ Wailing Arrow to be placed on reduced cooldown despite being successfully cast.

Bolt of the Storm
Developer Comments: We love this talent and think it can create a lot of really interesting moments, but the cooldown was just too short. At 70 seconds we think this talent is still a great level 20 pick, but now players will have to be more strategic with how they use it. Forcing someone to use their Bolt to avoid a gank can now be a meaningful moment with this increased cooldown. We hope this also entices players towards choosing their Heroic upgrades instead of Bolt when the situation calls for it.

- Minions affected by Sylvanas’ Possession will no longer occasionally appear to attack one another.

New Hero
Sylvanas Windrunner has been added to Heroes of the Storm and is now available for play! Read on for a brief overview of her Abilities, and then check her out in Try Me Mode using the in-game Shop.

- Shoot the closest enemy for 25 damage, preferring Heroes. Stores 5 charges.

- Deals 10 damage, and an additional 40 damage over 2 seconds, to target unit. This effect spreads to nearby units.

- Send forth a wave of banshees, dealing 30 damage to all targets. Reactivate to teleport to the banshees’ location.
